my laptop has been behaving quite weirdly for the last… 24 hours. it seems the thing is lagging even though it’s not taking up much ram usage to even justify the lag somewhat. this has all been happening since i plugged my iphone in – but it might all be coincidental too.
While it’s not too big a concern yet, i can barely play any games since my keyboard lags to hell and i run into boss mobs like the biggest leeroy on wheels. whatever, i am going to let this baby sleep for the next 12 hours – maybe it is what it needs right now.
Meanwhile, I have just been messing around with my iphone all day. firstly, deciding on a name: Suigintou. then, uploading all necessary music (those that were already organised). And then, creating windows contacts for everyone, since I couldn’t just “transport” my sim or even use my old number (long story), and then uploading that too.
One of the more exciting things I did after that was to find applications for my iphone. Once upon a time, I owned a Palm Tungsten T, which did quite alot of things for me (such as office on the go, which allowed me to write half a book while on train rides to work), and i just wanted my iphone to have some of those capabilities and a lot more. in 2001 or so, Palm tops that were also phones did not quite exist (unless you link it to your mobile).
to start with, I decided to have the obvious:
Social networking stuff.
- Fring: Really nice, simplistic all in one messenger. so even though i don’t use my yahoo that often, hey i am connected on it (ICQ is a different story – i forgot my icq account details lol scrap that, a quick google found it. I still don’t like icq for all their ads)
- Facebook: No brainer here
- Twitterific: for all my twittering purposes (not to mention my simplest form of news from around everywhere).
Let’s just put it this way, I don’t have the time or energy to care about updating all forms of social networks. so what i have done is linking all of them up in the simplest form ever since everyone has different ideas of how and where they want to socialise. My main site links to Livejournal, Multiply and Facebook (as notes).
My twitter is linked to Facebook and Myspace. the only odd ones out, Tumblr and Plurk, depends on my mood. I don’t update tumblr much, if at all, while plurk is quite substantially used, compared to twitter at the moment.
and as for all my messenger needs, when i felt like it, I was constantly on meebo – it’s less maddening than Trillian, and just is more… “friendly”? Fring sppears to be a simpler (and iphone) version of meebo with lots of other pluses (such as skype and etc)
News
I had an obsession when i had my palm – trying to update it incessant with news articles of sorts. Some days, I had copy and paste news in word format and read them on the way to work, other days the “news update” works beautifully.
so here’s my choices (at the moment) with my Iphone:
- BBC
- New York Times
Others I wish to have:
– Time Magazine (why isn’t there one!?! or am I blind!?!?!)
– some Australian news feed (that is not trashy)
– Foreign Affairs
Organisation
- Remember the Milk: This was fairly simple. of all the whole lists under “productivity” that the apps store had, alot of them costs money that I felt wasn’t worth it for (free is always best!) or sounds like there were many gripes in one way or another (not colored, no grocery lists) and I didn’t want to buy 2 apps when i can have one. Or more.
Since i set up RTM back in 2006, I never had much use for it because I am such a lover of paperwork. oh the irony. however, something changed this year (my brains snapped) and i realised i just love to collect diaries, but I don’t write anything in them.
and I always forget the milk and eggs (lol?) therefore, something on the phone has to be it. by the way, it has re-motivated me to chuck stuff on to my RTM, because these are stuff that has to be done and it’s a HUGE list.
Games
-WoW Characcters: hah! now i can spy on my characters and see what else i can do for them.
-WoW talent Tree: because i need to plan my holiness around it.
Definitely need: Bejewelled2.
the sad thing is, I am unable to find something similar to “office to go” or whatever it was called. Most of the apps that appears to have good reviews (and substantially good ones too) appears to be paid apps. quite frankly, I want to be able to at least trial them before paying for them. I am looking for something that allows me to manipulate files (aka write stuff into the documents), read pdfs and can transfer them changed files back to the lappy – all via usb if possible (as wi fi is broken in this home). Don’t really care about much else.
yeah, at the end of the day, i have decided to use my Iphone just like a supercharged Palm-top. I will admit I did attempt to put mp3s on my palm-top, but the technology for it only allowed… what, 11 songs?
ah, the fangirl in me is erupting all over this iphone
